In 2013 Christ Church Grammar School’s website was well-regarded, with excellent content and a loyal following from its existing school community, but it wasn’t advancing the school’s brand positioning objectives or meeting the school’s needs. The site had been created by the IT department eight years earlier using a software system that had over time become superseded. Over the years the site navigation had become confusing, the search functionality patchy and basic edits and restructures became complex. The content had become too expansive for a digital medium. And significantly, it was not multiple-device friendly. The final straw came when new disability access requirements rendered the site non-compliant and the cost to resolve the issues proved prohibitive.


imageseven first spent time with the Christ Church team to refine the brief and establish the project objectives for a website overhaul. Specifically the site needed to offer a more targeted approach to prospective parents who were ‘shopping around’ for a school for their son. For existing parents, who already had a level of dependency on the existing site, we advised a dedicated entry page where a world of information (sorted by whole school/secondary/preparatory and community tabs) and ‘must read’ content would be easily accessible — minimising clicks and eliminating the need for paper based notices. Significant shortcomings of the existing site, which included poor search engine optimisation and not being mobile friendly, were addressed as part of the brief. With the brief and the objectives set, imageseven initiated its Web Excellence Program in July 2013.


Christ Church went live with its new site in February 2014. The feedback has been very positive from prospective parents and staff as well as current parents. Improved navigational structure has enabled better analysis of how the content is being viewed. We continue to work with Christ Church on refinements. That is a good sign — because the digital space is so fluid and we all want to ensure we are managing the site with the best impact and functionality as well as sustainability.
